Sock investments are ALWAYS life update worthy but, like you say, so is everything else. It's not always big grand life plans, sometimes it's "I tried this recipe for the first time" and that's equally (if not more) fulfilling in the long run.
Yes we can. For example, I am currently wearing Christmas socks :)
Also on this topic if you like jazzy/cosy socks I came across this brand when I was away the other weekend and I’m now a bit obsessed https://solmatesocks.co.uk/
These socks are amazing and that dessert your mom made looks incredible!! I always feel the same way when catching up with friends…I never feel like I have anything exciting to say. I was wondering if part of not sharing the little stuff is either
a) the time between meetings or talking —we just aren’t close enough. I’ve noticed with some friends the little things come naturally and with others, the more time passes between talking the more weird it feels to share those things
B) social media is already revealing everything so what’s left to say? A little depressing but I can’t count how many times something comes up and is followed by that comment or thought of “oh yeah I saw that on your…”
YES. I think closeness is a big part of it - the longer it is since I've seen someone, the more impressive I feel like I have to be. I find the social media thing happens in reverse for me - because I don't have instagram, people forget I don't know about things because they've already shared it. Completely relate to what you're feeling Angela. Thank you for reading!! 🩷
Those rainbow socks are definitely something to write home about!
I loved this piece. Life in the in-between always feels boring and 'not worth talking about', but they're the building blocks to whatever's next. Plus, we are always going to be in the middle. Achieving one goal often only means moving onto another, so it's kinda cool to be somewhere in the middle. I, for one, adore hearing about the great cinnamon bun you found or the latte art that looked like Shrek in my bestie's morning coffee. The everyday mundane is magic! ❤️
Thank you Michelle!! I think you're right, we sort of float in the middle all the time and I think I'm overly critical of it, always chasing something bigger, even though it's inevitable to be mundane most of the time! Also, need to see Shrek latte art - think that's kind of a big deal. 💙💙
I read that we -- as humans -- consistently think we are at the beginning or end of something, but we're pretty consistently in the middle. I think good friends like hearing that you found a kickass new recipe or enjoyed something you read or found some new amazing songs. If they don't, and they only want to hear about your top 10 life moments, I wouldn't consider them to be great friends.
One of my favorite -- and most popular -- Instagram stories was about my $10 ratcheting screwdriver. By no means was the screwdriver a life achievement, but it's something I was proud to own (It works so well! And it was so inexpensive!) And it prompted me to ask if anyone owned anything they got for really cheap and now couldn't imagine living without. I got all sorts of cool responses from all kinds of friends (real life, online, etc.) Net comment: if it matters to you, it matters to your friends.
Wow Rebecca thank you for leaving such a thoughtful comment! You're completely right, I think we always see life as lots of mini events but actually it's just one big one with ups and downs dispersed throughout.
👏🏻 if it matters to you, it matters to your friends. As long as they're real ones!
Socks are always a welcome update! I'm a sucker for a FatFace sock with little animals or flowers. (But I do still lick baking spoons - somehow cake and cookie batter tastes better than the cooked product?!)
Ella, thank you everso for liking my latest post enough to share it in here. I am deeply flattered!
I love hearing about the 'smaller' stuff in people's lives. I want to know what you're watching on telly, how you love quiet nights in as much as I do, where you get your pants from, what book you couldn't stand, the podcast you're binging. Someone I follow recently declared their love for small talk and I quite agree. Not everything has to be profound! Life is overwhelming.
So keep sharing the extraordinary ordinary. I want to read about it!

A 10/10 piece, no notes.
Can we normalise conversations about sock preferences?

NO WAY I LOVE THEM. I used to only wear those little white ankle socks but honestly happy socks are such a joy bringer

Quite frankly, I too would be overjoyed by those socks
are they not the happiest socks you've ever seen!!

Wait…you don’t lick the spoon anymore?!

I wish I had your self control 😉😂
I thought the same thing! I will never grow out of that one.
I had the same thought 😆 this is WHY I bake!!
