Ella, thank you so much for this newsletter. It is insane how this platform always brings me the content that I need to read the most at the exact right time. In the past, I've taken Hughe pride in being a planner. I like thinking ahead, planning things out and knowing where I am going. However, due to many life changes over the past couple of years and a job that sucked the life out of me, I have become overwhelmed with the idea of planning, particularly when it involves a to do list. So instead of focusing on all the things I should be doing in the next couple of days or weeks, I want to take your advice and look at right now. What's the one thing I should be doing next? So grateful to have found you on here and excited to connect further!

Oh wow Katharina what a lovely comment, thank you so much! 🥹 I am so happy that this resonated with you. I feel like we're on the same wavelength, planning gives us a real sense of control over our lives but sometimes it's too much to handle. I really hope "the next right thing" helps you to slow down and relax a little, especially as things get busy again over the holidays! 🩷 lots of love!

I do hope so too! And I agree so much, planning gives me a sense of control but sometimes, it's too much control that I am trying to enforce.

Ooh I needed to read this so much this week. I've never heard this phrase before but will be keeping it in my back pocket during this wildly busy season ❤️

It's a good one isn't it?! Anything that helps us to slow down and relax in the chaos I can get on board with 🙋🏼‍♀️🩷

Another beautiful round up! I've come across The Next Right Thing before, and it is SUCH a help (when I remember to use it!) Not heard it described as children eating vegetables and it's such a good analogy. Must remember that in future.

Nerd alert re 'an heroine'... I think 'an' can be/ was used in history when the 'h' is silent. Pronunciation depended on time period and location. Every now and then I still hear 'an herb', 'an hotel'. So I suspect 'an heroine' is how Austen must've used the term (nerd alert over and out 🤓)

Thank you Florentyna! 🧡

THANK YOU!! This would make so much more sense. I thought it was probably of the time but it was bothering me hahah

That is a fun fact about the 'an' and a silent h word. Kind of like French when they use l' on all vowels and words starting with h. eg. l'hotel

Loved this! Did you know there's a song in Frozen II called "The Next Right Thing"? It's when Anna feels at her lowest and all alone and she decides the only thing she can do at her lowest is the next right thing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFkClV2gM-s

God, I needed to read this today. November/December is always a manic time of year for me - the busiest months at work, lots of birthdays, Christmas prep... it's a lot and I find myself thinking 5, 6, 7 steps ahead constantly. Thank you for this <3

Also, the next right thing I'm going to do is book a train ticket because it's been rattling around my mind all day lol.

ALSO "an heroine" is upsetting my too but it might be the same as "an history"? Equally upsetting ://

So happy to see your joy list again! It really is one of my favourite parts of the sunny side up! Those books are gorgeous although I must embarrassingly admit that I have never read a Jane Austen book, eek!

I agree so much with what you said regarding how we respond to negative parts in our day which then determine whether we deem it a ‘good’ or a ‘bad’ twenty-four hours. I had a rough day on Sunday, so many things went wrong, and I ended up calling the day off in my head. I decided 'that was a rubbish day, bring on tomorrow' rather than trying to turn it around. I ended up having a really nice evening but the bad start to my day really got stuck in my head. I couldn't stop thinking about it.

Maybe next time I have a bad day I could change my mindset to "how could I make this day better for me?" or as Miranda says "What’s the next right action in the now to move forward?".

Great advice in this piece Ella and I will totally be taking it on board! <3

Thank you Ciara!! 💜 We can be embarrassed together, I don't know how I managed to get through a whole English degree without having read an Austen novel 🤝

Ugh I'm literally doing the same thing today, people have closed the blinds in the office and I've made it my personality to be annoyed because that's all the daylight gone. BUT I'm going to *try* and take my own advice and remind myself that I can make myself a cup of tea and get a biscuit, and that's going to be the next best thing I can do right now to make me feel better. This comment turned into me doing a live-action self-therapy session??

Big love Ciara!! <3
